Explore the Past, Inspire the Future 

Are you a Transition Year student ready to step out of the classroom and into the world of Irish heritage? The Irish Heritage Trust invites you to explore Ireland’s heritage from the inside through a hands-on Transition Year experience designed to inspire the next generation of heritage professionals.  

What  You Will  Experience  

Exhibitions, Collections, and Interpretation 

Go behind-the-scenes and discover how artefacts are cared for, curated, and how their stories are presented to the public  

Marketing & Communications 
Learn how to build a brand identity, promote events, and share stories that connect people to heritage  

Project Management  

Get hands-on experience in the planning, maintenance, and transformation work that keeps heritage sites thriving 

Learning Programming & Outreach 

Discover how we design public events, engage with schools, and develop community programmes that bring history to life for all  

Philanthropy and Membership Engagement  

Learn how community support, donations, and membership programmes help sustain heritage work and organisational growth  

Sustainability 
Explore how the Trust is embracing sustainable practices to protect the environment and preserve cultural assets for future generations. 

Human Resources and Career Skills 

Gain practical HR experience, learn about workplace duties, and take part in a career’s clinic designed to prepare you for the future  

Throughout the week, you will learn how history and people come together to make heritage matter.  

Who Should Apply?  

We’re looking for curious, enthusiastic TY students who are eager to learn and ready to get involved. Whether you love history, art, architecture, or community work – this is your chance to bring heritage to life.  

Programme Details 

This is a five-day programme, taking place from April 13th – April 17th 2026. Each day will be from 10am – 4pm, with one hour for lunch. Lunch will not be provided.  

All participants must be available for all days of the programme, and able to travel to the Irish Heritage Trust, 11 Parnell Square East, Dublin 1, D01 ND60.  

The TY programme is subject to change.
