Celebrating Heritage at Strokestown Park, Fota House & Johnstown Castle Estate from 17 – 25 August
National Heritage Week takes place from 17-25 August and celebrates all things cultural, built and natural heritage. An initiative of the Heritage Council, it brings people and communities together to build awareness of the value of heritage and to support its conservation.
This years theme is Connections, Routes & Networks.
Irish Heritage Trust Events for Heritage Week
Our Heritage Week events explore our connections – how we are connected to each other and our connection with the earth and nature. We have a programme of events taking place at Irish Heritage Trust properties in Roscommon, Cork and Wexford.
A key theme across Trust properties is Nature & Sustainability and we are running a series of talks and tours featuring our biodiversity and sustainability initiatives. We look forward to sharing more about our sustainability journey in a new project, funded by The Heritage Council, over the coming months.
Johnstown Castle Estate, Museum & Gardens
From talks and tours with our head gardener to conservation activities and exhibitions, our Nature and Sustainability event takes centre stage in our Heritage Week programme.
Fota House, Arboretum & Gardens
A busy events programme at our heritage gem in Cork includes genealogy, talks on former house residents and free tours.
Our Nature & Sustainability series continues here with the Irish Bee Conservation Project on the success of their partnership and the Irish Black Bee apiary at Fota that supports almost 70 bee boxes!
Strokestown Park
Strokestown Park will be running a series of Nature & Sustainability events including ‘Woodland Wellbeing Ecotherapy’ and our ‘Farm to Fork Grain Project”.
Reflecting the theme of National Heritage Week – Connections, Routes & Networks – the venue will also feature events from automotive history, life writing, to immersive experiences that allow you to step right into history.
Events are free but booking is advised and donations are welcome.
